Ice + Fruit = Happy Kiddos

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about the wonders of the Zoku Quick Pop maker.  Since then, we've put it to great use!  Most recently, we made some fabulous strawberry lemon kiwi pops that were delicious.  Best of all, Riley felt proud of this recipe, her very own.  A few days later, we decided that apple blueberry yogurt pops didn't create the best flavor and we'll hold off on doing that one again.

For the strawberry lemonade pops, it was pretty simple.  We literally took a bunch of cut up strawberries and blended them with some freshly squeezed lemon juice.  The strawberries were very, very ripe so they were unusually sweet.  I think that lead to a better pop.
Next, we poured the mixture into the pop maker and had whole sliced pieces of kiwi ready to drop into the molds.  Just don't overflow the molds, especially if you are using this particular pop maker...because you can't get them out and if you touch that top, your fingers will practicality stick on for good.  Any of you who have seen the Christmas Story, we know what happens when that kid sticks his tongue to the flag pole...same idea here.  This is best for Mama (or Dada) to do, just in case.
After 7 minutes in the freezer, the girls had fresh pops...and they were a hit!  It was a great activity, Riley wrote out the simple recipe for her "file", practiced basic math skills and had a delicious treat after.
I know, I know...enough of the frozen pops already!  But really, they were that good.  Oh and I forgot to mention, we also brought out the 'ol Snoopy Snowcone Machine last week (that thing never works) but we managed to make a couple anyway.
The moral?  On hot weather days, you can't go wrong with ice and fruit!
