Holiday Review and Hello 2013!

I hope you all had a wonderful, happy, relaxing, laughter filled and restful holiday season.  I still can't believe it's over.  The weeks and days leading up to Christmas were busy but wonderful, we enjoyed the holiday season so much.  For us, both girls were completely excited for Santa's arrival this year and also our family traditions that my oldest specifically has really grown to love.  It was wonderful to watch her explain some of those traditions to her little sister - and see them enjoy together.  This was the first year Sydney was assisting Riley in the holiday baking and getting everything ready for Santa's arrival.  The vacation was relaxing and wonderful, lazy days spent as they should be - with one another and playing in new fallen snow (and lots of it) and with their new toys.  The sounds of their post holiday giggles was a true gift.  So much so that I do realize that it won't always be this way and that I have to make the most of these magical years.
I would be a liar if I told you that after Christmas I didn't feel a little blue.  I just sort of tend to feel a little empty or sad that another Christmas and Holiday Season is behind us.  I am however, looking forward to a 2013 with much excitement and anticipation.  I know that great things will happen this year.
We've been watching my Mom's pup while she is moving into a new place this week.  The girls adore him and he has been fun to have around....if only I could get used to walking him in 16 degree temps!  He's a good boy though and a great sport.

We also took the tree down and enjoyed our last holiday tradition...hiding and finding the Christmas pickle.  This is something the girls really enjoy.  I remember doing this when I was pregnant with Riley and imagining that some day my baby girl would take part in the fun.  She found it this year!  So much fun!
There is something about a new year that helps me get a fresh outlook on life
and feel like I'm starting with a clean slate, a new journal if you will.
With that, bring on 2013!  I know I've been off a bit on my blogging journey but promise to resume a normal schedule again.  I am excited to find inspiration all around and share it with you this year!

    1. Angelina,
The Christmas pickle originated in Germany. The way we do it, is we hid the pickle the day after Christmas. The person who finds it, receives an extra gift - or the gift of good fortune through the year. The winner, also writes a passage about our Christmas season in our family memory book and then reads a special story on Christmas Eve 2013. Many people do it differently but that's how we do it. It's fun and the kids love it!

  3. The Holidays just wouldn't be as much fun without the little munchkins IMHO. My baby is growing up so fast and at 3 is turning into a little girl right before my eyes. I'm glad you had a lovely holiday, we did as well!
Good luck giving the dog back to your mom! ;?

    1. Great to hear Gwen! It's amazing how every year is so magical with little ones. I think that's why I get more sad as the years roll on. I think we still have a few magical ones left though! Happy New Year!
