Wintering and a giveaway!

Hun´ker down:to settle in at a location for an extended period
Each Winter, after the holidays have past, we tend to retreat and spend more time at home and more time inside.  It's a great way to save money and reconnect with the family.  It gets dark so early that we are almost forced to slow down and often times, it's just what the family needs.  We take the time to play plenty of games, work on art projects, snuggle and watch movies.  As I've said before, I'm often plagued by the "After Christmas Blues" but am trying to optimistically look towards this as a "Fresh Start" season.

One, simple thing that we have started to do is Family Reading.  This is a quiet, special time when we get a nice warm cup of tea and reach for our favorite book.  The girls are really enjoying this and it's just a special way to do something independently - yet together.  A cup of tea and enjoying a good read - which just happens to be my Spring magazines and catalogs rolling in, is a welcome distraction to the foot of snow outside and the colder days.  We do love our snow but sometimes it is nice to get excited about Spring blooms and garden plans.

I decided to share a few of my Winter Essentials with one lucky Barefoot by the Sea reader!  Simply leave me a comment below and let me know what your favorite Winter activity is, extra entries if you follow me on Facebook or Twitter!  You'll be entered to win a pack of goodies including one of my favorite magazines, tea and more!

  2. Hope your little one is doing better. I was excited to receive a few books I'd ordered in the mail yesterday. I'm hunkering down as well for some good reads. Btw, wondering if you're using Rafflecopter as it doesn't seem to be working, didn't see any form coming up.

  6. My favorite winter activity is wishing for snow. I love to watch it snow, drink hot cocoa (or tea) and read a good magazine or bake some yummy bread. I live in Southern WA so we don't get a lot of snow here. But, we can always wish!

  17. We do not have a ton of outside activity in the winter. We are wimps. :-) But we still manage to get outside and go for walks. Gotta get the little ones away from the TV.

  23. Winter is a different season than most for me. I live in a hot beachy area! Depending on the temperature of our winter season will decide whether I can do a beautiful beach day, because it is finally cool enough to enjoy the beach! Or if we have a truly cold snap it is time to enjoy fake fireplaces with hot cider and the smell of pumpkin pie. Oh my such variety! I did now follow you on Facebook and my twitter; thank you!
