Garden Update!

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the state of our garden.  It's safe to say that the pictures weren't exactly "recent" but I had hoped to write more about the progress of our very first raised bed garden.  I think it's doing QUITE well!
The week after the 4th of July, we picked our first zucchini and cucumbers.  The girls were SO excited and (of course) each picked a zuchhini and (of course) argued about who would pick the very first cuke.  I can imagine the neighbors watching a "nice little family" out in their little garden as the five and nine year old start battling it out over a cucumber!  Yes, that is our life!
They have been eager to see the garden though, it's been a wonderful educational experience!  We've watched as the bees are busy in our garden!
And as our Summer squash continue to grow, sometime it seems, right before our eyes!
The kids are SO excited to harvest more veggies.  And yes, please note - again ONE cuke!  You know what that led too...!

  1. Ha, how funny! We have had a few hiccups in the garden. My kids like to pick anything with any hint of color! Then I realized you really have to have an eye for color with some of our veggies ~ like the sungold tomatoes have to be really orange, not orange with a hint of green, before they are actually ripe to pick. Most kids aren't going to pick up on that. Hope you are having a good day!

  2. Nice!! I love seeing people's harvest! We have a few green peppers growing and a lot of green tomatoes....our cukes have yet to come around but we are crossing our fingers :) I can only imagine the arguments when it comes time to pick....we will have to come up with a system!! lol :) Thanks for sharing your update!

  3. Haha Jessica, that sounds sooooo familiar. We have a huge veg garden, fruit orchard, nut trees, olive grove, chickens etc. and I can't tell you how many times I've had to arbitrate over which child gets to collect the eggs and which one gets to pick the strawberries - because, of course, they can't BOTH do these things! BTW: your garden looks lovely. It's so nice to be able to pick your own food and then cook and eat it.

  4. Yay! How exciting! I love it that the girls are thrilled over all the veggies. We have been harvesting so many cucumbers lately. It's awesome! It seems like summer squash grows so fast. I am always amazed at how much it grows in just a few short days!

  5. We don't have a garden and I've always wanted to have one but I don't have a green thumb like my parents do. Everything I plant seem to always die. You do have a lovely garden and it's great picking your own veggies.
