In the garden...

I'm happy to report that our garden is still successfully producing and feeding our family of four quite happily.  This is the first year we've had such a success and who would have thought two little raised beds would be so successful?  And the sun!?  In year's past and in an effort to keep things "neat and tidy" I have tried to avoid our front lawn and a garden but finally came to our senses and planted the garden in the front and in the SUN!

We've had a steady supply of zucchini and Summer squash and plenty more where those came from!  After our week away on vacation, we found several LARGE zucchini so stay tuned for a couple zucchini bread recipes in the coming weeks!
We also have had our fair share of cucumbers, which my kids love and have been known to pick and eat on the spot.  They also played "Farmers Market" for a couple hours and enjoyed exploring the garden.
We also have been picking a steady supply of tomatoes - both sungold and cherry, which my daughters tend to gobble up immediately.  But, we've had so many that they actually haven't been able to consume them all!  There is nothing like a fresh, ripe and HOME GROWN tomato!
And the peppers!  We have cherry red peppers, jalapeno and habanero!  My kids steer clear of those (for the most part).  But, you always get a daredevil in the bunch (aka - my hubby) who INSISTS they "aren't that hot"...I could tell you that was the truth, or I could tell you someone went running into the house for a cold drink of water.  You can guess which is fact and which is fiction.
I will be sad when this has past and we are LOVING all these yummy, fresh veggies!  How is your garden doing?

  1. I'm so happy you moved to the front yard :-) I think for next year, definitely expand, and definitely get a fence ;-) It is so fun to see how everything is growing! And what are your plans with those habanero peppers?!

  2. How wonderful to be getting so much produce! The habanero scenario is pretty funny. My kids love how they look but I have to tell them as cute as those peppers are, they pack a punch. We have a little patch of green beans and they are so good and my big tomatoes are beginning to ripen.

  5. Wow! Your garden is really producing! We are getting a lot of tomatoes and cucumbers lately as well. I just love "shopping" for groceries in my own back yard - there is nothing better!

  6. I'm so jealous of everyone's gardens! Our tomatoes are still green, we just have too much shade:( The zucchini makes me want to make muffins, stat.
