Maple Pizza Dough Recipe

We've been reducing our dairy intake for a while now and recently our doctor did confirm that it was best for my oldest daughter to avoid it.  Unfortunately there are some things my daughter loves: cheese and ice cream immediately come to mind!  Luckily there are some amazing dairy free alternatives out there, we are so much luckier than if this was a problem five or ten years ago!

Pizza night is always something we look forward to every Friday.  This past Friday, I decided to make a 1/2 cheese and 1/2 cheese free pizza.  The results were great and everybody was happy and satisfied!

I also tried a new dough recipe.  I usually use this one but decided to give a different one a try, so that I could add a different flavor in the crust.  The result?  Unique and equally delicious!

Ingredients for the Crust:

  • 1 packet rapid rise yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

  •
    Directions:
    1. In a large bowl, combine water and yeast and stir until the yeast is dissolved.
    2. Add in flour, maple syrup, salt, and coconut oil and use a wooden spoon to combine. Once the ingredients are well combined with the spoon, use your hands to knead the dough for a few minutes.
    3. Form the dough into a ball, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
    4. Pre-heat your oven to 450 degrees and spray a 16 inch pizza pan with non-stick cooking spray
    5. Roll the dough out into a 16 inch circle. Roll the edges of the dough.
    6. Place the crust in the oven for 8 minutes.
    7. Remove from the oven and add sauce, cheese, and toppings.  We used carmalized onions all over, along with fresh tomatoes from our garden, nutritional yeast sprinkled on the dairy free half and cheese on half.
    8. Return the pizza to the oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is crispy and the cheese is melted.
    9. Cut into slices and enjoy!

    3. I like the addition of maple syrup! Yum! The pizza looks so delicious. Funny, because I'm making pizza myself tonight! We eat a lot of pizza around here :) Usually dairy-free, but lately I've been falling off the wagon and eating a little cheese.

    7. I've never put sugar of any kind in my pizza crust--but I can see how the flavor of maple would make a tasty dough.
      Looks good!

    8. What an interesting idea! I can see it pairing really well with a fall type pizza. Maybe some caramelized onions and roasted winter squash. Thanks for sharing it!

    9. It’s very nice that you’re able to stretch and modify your daily meals to accommodate your daughter’s needs as well. You’re one great mom. That pizza looks delicious. Thank you for sharing this recipe! This would be very useful, especially for other moms out there with the same predicament.
