Ceylon Cinnamon Feature and Giveaway!

Ceylon Cinnamon...have you heard of it?  Until recently, I hadn't.  I simply was buying the regular cinnamon that I found in the grocery stores.  Most people use this, called Cassia Cinnamon which technically isn't even real cinnamon.  It's a spice that typically contains a dangerous compound called coumarin that the FDA has recently warned against ingesting.   More people these days are starting to become aware of the real Cinnamon called Ceylon Cinnamon.

Ceylon Cinnamon from Sri Lanka. It has an amazing flavor and aroma (much better than the Cassia Cinnamon) and makes all things with Cinnamon even more fantastic and the excellent health benefits of Ceylon Cinnamon are well documented.

Recently, in a quest to get this cinnamon - because my health and my family's health is most important to me.  I ordered a bottle of Ceylon Cinnamon from Flavor Of The Earth via Amazon (my go to place for finding these rare ingredients that aren't always readily available at the local market.  You can find it here.  Flavor Of the Earth brings in fresh Ceylon Cinnamon bark from Sri Lanka. Then in very small batches, we fresh grind the bark into Cinnamon Powder and immediately pack it into flavor pouches to capture the full freshness and health benefits. This Ceylon Cinnamon has 1,250 times LESS Coumarin than cassia cinnamon which makes it the safest Cinnamon for consumption.  This Ceylon Cinnamon is also a great source of Manganese, Fiber, Calcium and Iron. It’s also salt free and no chemicals, pesticides, fertilizer, additives or preservatives are used in growing or harvesting it.

I've been using Ceylon Cinnamon exclusively for a month now and have to say the flavor is stronger, better and delicious.  We're hooked and plan to use Ceylon Cinnamon going forward.

Flavor of The Earth has generously offered to giveaway one lucky winner a 1lb bag of Ceylon Cinnamon!  Simply click the link HERE and come back on my blog to leave a comment about what sets Ceylon apart from regular Cinnamon.  Extra entry if you tell me the first think you'll bake with it if you win (please leave a seperate comment per each entry).

Winner chosen via random.org on December 15th!

Please note, I was not paid to write this blog post and all opinions are my own.

  1. One of my favorite TV cooking personalities was talking about this kind of cinnamon, and I have been watching stores for it, and hadn't ran into it yet. So, if I were to win, I would make Cinnamon and Piloncillo Cookies from Pati's Mexican Table, where I first learned about Ceylon!
