Simple Salt Dough Recipe (Crafts)

Every school vacation the girls are eager to make their own play dough - never mind the fact that Santa may have brought some! So, for this easy indoor activity, we made this simple and CHEAP play dough together.  I love that I can get the ingredients out and they can do this together.  So easy, the best part!

Simple Salt Dough
1/4 cup salt
1 cup flour
1/4 cup water

Have your child mix the flour and salt in a bowl then add water. Knead and squeeze the dough to make a clay consistency. You may need to add more water. I found that this homeade dough didn't last as long as some other homeade recipes we'd tried in the past and it was firmer.  What I liked about it, is that it was more of a clay consistancy and Sydney was able to make her keepsake (a little turtle) and have a treasure to paint later.

You can also make the colored dough.  Simply divide into sections, then knead in food coloring (liquid or paste). Kids love making the white play dough change colors! I've also heard people have used a drink mix like Kool-Aid for color and scent, although we haven't.  We will definetely be adding glitter in the future for sparkly play dough.

We will definetely be making this again in the future!

Happy Monday!
