Your Journey...

"Don't ask what the world needs.  Ask what makes you come alive and go do it.  Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman

As I grown older, I've come to the realization that you have to build your life around your passion.  It's not simply that you become a nurse because there are a lot of nursing jobs available.  You do it (or the hope is you do it) because you want to help people, you want to share your gift of compassion with others.  Now how many nurses have you come in contact with in your life that were drawn into their profession for the right reasons?  That's just an example of course, but I have come to realize that if you do what you love and feel good about, you are a happier and more successful person.  Our children need that and yearn for us to be happy, satisfied, well rounded individuals.  The economy doesn't always lead us to our "dream job" but even if you aren't doing what you love, you owe it to yourself and your children to find what you love and do it as a hobby.  I've found that if I have the time to create, craft, garden or write, I'm a much happier person.  I feel more fulfilled.  When I spend time with my close friends, I'm more easy to be around.  It's because when you fill yourself up with the things that you love, that drive you, and are important to you....you are a better person.

We become "alive" and yes, the world needs us all to be alive!

Happy Friday my friends, I hope you're off to do what you love!

  1. great post and super relevant to me right now. With the state of my life right now, I have been distracted from all the things I have passion for (other than my family of course). I definitely feel it. I am making small strides to get back to these things, I know it will make me happier, a better mom and just enjoy life more! Post is such a great reminder! hugs!

  2. Excellent quote! And one I have been thinking about quite a bit lately. We all need to have passion, and to show that passion to our children so that they can grow and have their own passions. Nice thoughts for a Friday morning :-)

  3. Very well written, Jessica! A lot of my own passions in life stem from growing up and seeing my parents have hobbies. I hope you have a great weekend!

  4. WOW! What prompted you to use "nurse" as an example. I am a semi retired nurse, and it was as though you were talking right to me! I chose it for the right reasons and had a very happy, and fulfilling career! You are so right about having people see us being passionate. I try to do things with them like that....with tons of happiness and enthusiasm! Thanks for this post!

  6. I couldn't agree more, Jess! I was just having a similar conversation with friends this past weekend....about needing to do what makes us come alive. And it is different for everyone! We are definitely on the same page - no wonder we're friends!! Have a great day and keep doing what makes you come alive! :)
