Craft Camp, Day 2

Day Two of Craft Camp was all about the buttons!  Last year, we did a button craft that the girls declared was their very favorite of the week.  This year, I wanted to do something a little different but wanted to ensure we incorporated the same medium.
First, I printed out each of the girl's first initials on cardstock and cut them out.  On the morning of craft camp, each had the choice of background color (pink, blue, green, yellow or purple). Pink was most popular for the littler ones and blue was most definetley the favored choice of the older.  Each was instructed to glue the initial on their cardstock.  Then came the fun part!  Each girl selected a mix of coordinating buttons and they glued them onto thier initials.  Some letters were simpler than others but the results were pretty neat, I just love watching the girls work carefully with determination and confidence.
While I was busy framing their projects, the girls enjoyed a fruit salad and passed around silly questions about music...favorite song, favorite dance...and of course a little dance party broke out with tons of giggles!
After snack time, we got right back down to work...this time, the girls were given a solid colored button that they stitched in the center of a piece of cardstock.  For a few, this was the first time they had used a needle and thread so it was a little...challenging but a great first experience.  I love the way they help one another out.  Each drew a flower around their flower's button center with ink and highlighted details with marker.  They were finished with a clear frame.  Pretty and easy, they were so excited to share their new creations with their Moms!

  1. Sounds like a fun craft day! Jack saw the picture of the fruit salad and said "you should probably make that soon." So fruit salad will be on the menu today!

  2. What a fun time for them!!!!! Easy and inexpensive!!!!! So sweet.

  3. Sounds like a fun day! I love the positive environment you provide for all the girls!

  4. What a fun, simple idea! Totally stealing this to do with my girls this week!! (I wish we lived close because they'd love to be part of your craft camps!)
