Winding Down

I hope you all enjoyed a late Summer weekend, is it Monday already? Weekends always seem to go so fast but there's something about late August that makes them feel like they are gone in a flash!  Not to mention we're starting to get cooler evenings, less humidity in the air and an overall Fall feel to our new England air.  I love Fall but I honestly could deal with a few more weeks of Summer warmth.

On the flipside, we've just returned from a week in Cape Cod that was wonderful. Our annual trip includes lots of time at the beach, long walks, later nights, good food and an overall easy, old-school family vacation. Plenty of long talks and family bonding which is exactly what I need before the craziness of the new school year resumes.  With the end of that trip, we start to focus more on getting back to our schedules, earlier bedtimes and refocusing on what lies ahead. For us this year, it means first grade and fifth grade, new teachers and friends and a new school.  One of the challenges of this upcoming year will be that my oldest starts an hour before my youngest at a different school and also gets out earlier. It makes it quite a challenge and I'm sure those of you who are already dealing with these differences in schedules feel the pain. I'm told I'll get used to it but it sounds daunting at this point.  My hope is by mid October everything will feel routine again and by then of course the nerves will have subsided.  I'm not a huge fan of change or adjustments but we will get through it like always.

For now, we will enjoy these last few days together and I'll watch the girls play to their hearts' content.  Those girls, who aren't so little anymore…they have reminded me all summer long what it's like to truly enjoy the little things, savor the sweetest moments and not be so serious.  They just enjoy what they are doing, their goal is to simply have fun. I am so blessed to have them in my life and the reminders are often needed for this Mama who is often over-scheduled and way too serious.  They continue to teach me to enjoy the little things and remember that these days are flying, just like Summer.

  1. It is amazing how fast the summer winds down. It seems like we have the shortest season ever! But, it is exciting to think about the new routines of fall. I'm sure you will fall right back into it when the girls start school, and it will be a piece of cake :-)
