Chalk Paint DYI

I don't think I've ever shared my love/obsession with chalk paint. Have you seen it? I'm not talking about the typical blackboard paint, (although that's pretty cool too), this is CHALK paint. A paint that's been actually mixed with chalk and creates a thick, high coverage paint that doesn't require prep or priming! Say what?! I'm not an expert painter by any means so this was a wonderful find!

There are tons of tutorials on Pinterest showing how you can make your own chalk paint but I found it just as easy to buy it at my local craft store. On a sidenote, I always check your newspaper or their website, most craft stores have great coupons you can print or access from your phone. Anyway, our Joann fabrics has a whole display of chalk paint and all sorts of cool colors including celery, cayenne and curry. I purchased Waverly brand but there are tons of brands out there that are great.

About a month ago, we scored a nice hardwood desk and chair at a yard sale for $10. It just needed a little facelift! I had read that this paint was the easiest for painting furniture and it did not disappoint! I chose the color agave and was really happy with the results! It applies thick and beautifully, it covered up any blemishes and discoloration. I'm a believer!

  3. What a great facelift! I have a piece of furniture that I recently inherited, that just doesn't "strike" me. This could be just what it needs :)

  4. I love the color of the desk and chair against the color of the wall and I REALLY love the branch above the desk. Did you make it also?
