Memories with a Side of Roasted Garlic!

When my husband and I were first dating, we would go out to all sorts of restaurants, catch plays in Boston, get away for the weekend, meet up with friends for drinks. We both had pretty good jobs, and were able to get what we wanted, when we wanted. We got married in 1999 and "the good life" continued. We rented a house in Camden, Maine. We were able to go on vacations pretty much whenever we wanted: Rhode Island, Bermuda, Aruba, Florida. And, we ate dinner out…a lot. One of the things we enjoyed so much, was dinner out at our favorite little Italian restaurant. They would serve roasted garlic in little terra-cotta pots.  Garlic, oven fresh rolls and delicious homemade butter. This quickly became our very favorite restaurant, shocking, I know. This mouthwatering garlic was absolutely my most favorite part of the meal. Eventually, we moved and didn't get to that restaurant very often. Then, we started having kids. The days of going out to dinner became fewer, instead we spent late nights catching sleep when we could, and becoming adjusted to our new life as parents. Isn't it funny how you can do something all the time and then suddenly stop but not really "miss it" until you really think about it?  One scent or memory can bring it all back.
I hadn't really given it much thought until this past weekend when the weather took a quick chilly turn and I decided to make a huge pot of Spinach Ziti soup. My husband mentioned serving it with rolls and garlic…enough said!  I used a Garlic Roaster like this and it comes out perfectly!
Sharing this delicacy with my sweet family was a new, wonderful experience. I love being able to share simple things like this with our family, continuing traditions that we thought were long forgotten.

One things for sure, we will be enjoying this again soon!

  5. That happened to me very recently... I thought of something that used to be so common for me, and just isn't anymore. Funny thing is, now I can't even remember what it was!
I do need to do something about this incredible craving I am now having for roasted garlic!

    1. Memories and time - they pass quickly. Sometimes we forget them, as if they never happen but some? When they come back, it really is "like yesterday" :) Now, go get your garlic on!
