What Matters Most

Here we are, mid December! It's the same every year, I had big plans to be ahead of the game, my shopping will be done, my baking will be effortless, gifts will be wrapped perfectly, I will be the hostess with the mostess...and then, reality sets in. Life has a sneaky way of just getting in the way! Everything seems to be a work in progress when I'm doing a mid-month check in. Some gifts have been purchased, others have not. I've wrapped a couple, baked a bit for community events. There's still so much to do!
As stressful as the holidays can be, I take comfort in the fact that we have done a lot so far this month. We've done the things that matter the most to us, those we hold closest to our hearts. We made our annual trek to the tree farm, selected our tree and decorated it together as a family. Most ornaments have special meaning and it's always fun to reminisce. We decorated our house, inside and out and we went to our city's afternoon Christmas parade. We've had cocoa, candy canes and coffee. We've made ornaments. We've watched Christmas movies and specials. We've listened to carols and enjoyed seeing Christmas lights.
All this to say, at our mid-month point I guess we've accomplished more than I could've hoped for. We've shared so many laughs and good times this month, it makes sense why December is my favorite month of the year! The next time you start to feel anxious, stressed or behind for not getting enough done, really think about all the things you have done to make this month special and give yourself a pat on the back. Somehow, it does ALL get done, most importantly the things that matter most!

  1. You are ahead of me! I haven't wrapped a dang thing...and will most likely be doing that right at the last minute...the next thing on my list is to make goodies for Matt's work...we will see how that goes!

  4. You are so good with the reminders. Hope you continue to enjoy the holiday season! We are STILL having rain instead of snow...so it doesn't quite feel like Christmas...but I suppose that's not what Christmas is all about, anyway. ;) xoxo
