In the Home...

Happy Friday my friends.  I'm really glad it's here! It's funny but it seems like short school/work weeks can be tougher to get through.  It was only 4 days of the schedule but it still seems like we're ready for the weekend.

I've been looking around the house lately and trying to tackle little projects here and there.  Nothing major but going through cabinets, getting rid of things I don't need.  A bit of "Winter Organizing" before the big stuff (Spring Cleaning).  It feels good.  Several trips to Goodwill and I've still got a lot to tackle but I'm liking the purge.  It is necessary and no matter how much I get rid of, there's always more to go through so I'm going to keep going. I like the idea of donating things no longer useful to us but that could be treasures or useful for others.  I like that sense of community and giving back.

I'm also taking inventory of projects and things that need to be done around our house.  We moved here almost 9 years ago now and things are starting to look a bit...weathered.  So, projects need to be completed, updates need to be made.  It's easier to take a mental note of it now and slowly plug away instead of letting it go and letting it overwhelm us.  Winter is a great time to get these indoor projects completed.  Things like painting doors and trim.  Tedious little pains that need to be taken care of.  Last weekend we replaced all our toilet seats.  Sounds silly, I know but when a cheapo contractor puts economical ones in 9 years ago they can start to look....weathered and let's face it, paint chipping off a toilet seat is just not pleasant!  There you have it!

Finally, I'm trying to update our decorating a bit.  Nothing major but wanting to make some minor updates to the look of the home.  I'm switching out our shower curtain and bath-rugs for a bit of an update, refreshing our bedspread with a comforter cover.  Basically using all things I have on hand but just giving little updates.

That's just a little update from here.  What do you have going on in your Winter Home?  Are you purging, cleaning out or doing any updating?  Winter seems like a logical time to tackle things we've put off.  I'd rather do these things when it's 20 degrees out instead of when it's beautiful and warmer!

Hope you guys have a great weekend.  We'll be tuning into a *little* game that is a BIG DEAL around here.  I'll give you a hint...this team is heading to Denver. We've enjoyed celebrating over the years - we've even made shirts in the past! I'm thinking of making these Creamy Enchiladas for the game. We will see what happens.

  1. Those little refreshers will make a big difference. It is fun to freshen things up in the winter. I have to go over our decorating list too. We've been in our house 10 years and things are starting to look dated, even things we did when we moved in. They do say a house needs tweaking every 10 years so we're due! I'm just hoping our power stays on for the upcoming storm. Creamy enchiladas sound good!!

    1. My goodness! This weekend you have permission to simply hunker down! Time for comfort food and board games or wine and good conversation! Thinking of you!

  2. I agree - I would much rather spend time busy inside in the Winter (because at least when you're running through the house you're warming yourself up comfortably!).
In my home, I've also been decluttering bit by bit. Not a large amount, as I'm trying to take it slow and work on a smaller area every day, but it's pleasant to be getting rid of things!
I am, however, trying to get a head start on Spring Cleaning - both by decluttering, but also have baseboards to wash next week, as well as starting to figure out what rooms to do first so far as pulling furniture from where it lives and whatnot to get underneath. Not the funnest task in the world, but needs to be done!

  3. Wow, literally doing the same things. I am taking a break right now (baby fell asleep on me). We are going to be gutting the kitchen, hopefully soon, so I'm packing away stuff that we need but aren't using right now as well as purging all the stuff that never gets used. I'm about to make a list of our projects so hubby and I can go over it together, later.

  4. Hello Friend,
I also did some cleaning. We put a few items on Ebay. We sold an item in less than an hour of posting. We have a few items on Craigslist too. But so far nothing has sold.
We took some to Goodwill. I have some closets that need cleaning. I hope to get to these soon.

    1. Such a good motivator to do a little cleanout! I've sold things on EBay through the years and occasiobally on Craigslist too! Sounds like you're making progress!

  5. We still have items waiting, a year later, to finish up from our big kitchen remodel. I am hoping we can tie up all those loose ends before spring!
My wonderful husband did install a water softener for us. I can't begin to tell you how exciting it is to finally have soft water!
