Spring Cleaning and Organizing!

Recently, I've tried to get more organized. I see a lot of blog posts and articles about your "stuff " holding you back. Basically, holding onto material possessions they don't really mean anything to you. I always try to stay organized and clear out the clutter, but it isn't easy, life gets in the way. In the beginning of the year, I made it a goal to clean out closets, cabinets, drawers and toys in an effort to see what we really need, what we're using and what we're wearing. It's a huge job and I'm by no means done but it's felt great to clean out a bit and make weekly trips to donate. I definitely like when things are cleaner, neater and more organized. In fact, I find that it's easier for me to be productive and stay on task without a bunch of clutter around. I do feel like it's a worthwhile investment of your time especially if you have children. They're constantly growing so you're bound to have things that need to be purged. Plus, it just feels good to donate something you no longer need that someone else might find useful, I always try to contribute to a good organization that does good things for the people in the community.

Of course when I'm organizing, I always feel like I need a better system in place to keep track of the things that we do keep.  Baskets, bins...why is it that getting rid of things always result in also buying things to get and stay organized?  Always skeptical of dollar store finds, I decided I'd check out what they have in store.  I've watched a lot of videos from Do It On A Dime (she has some amazing organizational ideas guys, go check it out and trusted that I'd find some deals on organizing.  I had no idea!

The Dollar Tree has these collapsible storage containers for $1 each.  They carry a variety of sizes and colors but they go FAST.  My favorite is their largest, size 10.5 X 11 X 10.5. I've found that it's best to grab what you can, you can always save them for another day. They also change their color based on the season so this Black/Tan one was a Winter find...
While their Spring colors have included this robins egg blue, green, orange and I also found pink.
Lastly, I scored ONE of these (I only found one). It was my favorite find and I loved the pattern! $1!
I would definitely keep this store in mind when you're organizing.  The fabric is durable and comparable to what I've found in Target.  They also have an online store, the minimum order is a case so not a bad deal, especially if you go in with a friend!  I haven't seen the fabric containers online but it doesn't mean they won't have them eventually!

What are your best organizational tips?  Feel free to share!

Happy Friday! Hope you guys have a great weekend!

  1. We just had a Dollar Tree open, and I haven't been there yet. I love that patterned container!
I struggle so much more with getting rid of things. Living as in the boonies as we do, what if "something" happened and we couldn't get to town, or lost heat, etc. for a period of time. It makes me want to hold onto things that I would not otherwise. Pretty sure that this is an irrational thought process I go through anymore, but as long as I don't let it get out of control, right??

    1. I can see your point! You never know what you might need but I'd say if you haven't used something for a couple years, you probably won't so it's safe to say goodbye!

  2. Hi,
I have one bin like this. It was a gift from my sister. Mine is black and it is a larger one. I really like it.
