Perfect for a Jam Connoisseur!

We visited the Green Briar Nature Center in Sandwich, Massachusetts while visiting Cape Cod last month.  We were thrilled to check out their working Jam Kitchen, which has been in operation since 1903!  It was a wonderful way to visit this kitchen and see how jam was made in the oldest commercial solar-cooking operation in the country.
Of course, we were all even more thrilled that they had a taste testing full of the freshest jams, jellies and relishes recently made.  We sampled fresh blueberry, sun ripe strawberry, along with some other goodies.  Sydney's favorite was the mint jelly....yes, random!   I only wish we lived closer so that we could take a few of their jam making workshops that they offer to the public!  For now, I'll try out this recipe that the ladies shared from their kitchen!

Linking up over at Carole's Chatter!

1 Orange
4 Cups Cranberries
3 Cups Sugar
2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
1 Cup Raisins
1/2 Cup Water
2 Cups Chopped Walnuts

Pick through and wash cranberries. Cut end from orange and slice into four pieces. Cut each piece into two. Remove center pith and slice each wedge crosswise into thin slices. Place all ingredients except nuts into pan. Bring to boil and cook until thick and glossy. Add nuts. Stir in well. Pour into sterilized jars and seal.
Yield 4 -6 8oz. jars

  1. Now that is the kind of kitchen I want to be canning in! All those burners!!! Looks like a fun time.

  2. I've never canned, but wish I did! I bet the jam was TASTY!

  3. Bread is by far my favorite food. But topped with jam is heaven. I am jealous. How fun!!! - Alix

  4. How cute. This cranberry conserve sounds wonderful. I'll have to see if I can get away w adding way less sugar. ;)

  5. Jessica, that's some jam kitchen! Thanks for joining in the 'jammy' fun. Cheers
