Fill yourself up

"Don't ask what the world needs.  Ask what makes you come alive and go do it.  Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman

As I grown older, I've come to the realization that you have to build your life around your passion.  It's not simply that you become a nurse because there are a lot of nursing jobs available.  You do it (or the hope is you do it) because you want to help people, you want to share your gift of compassion with others.  Now how many nurses have you come in contact with in your life that were drawn into their profession for the right reasons?  That's just an example of course, but I have come to realize that if you do what you love and feel good about, you are a happier and more successful person.  Our children need that and yearn for us to be happy, satisfied, well rounded individuals.  The economy doesn't always lead us to our "dream job" but even if you aren't doing what you love, you owe it to yourself and your children to find what you love and do it as a hobby.  I've found that if I have the time to create, craft, garden or write, I'm a much happier person.  I feel more fulfilled.  When I spend time with my close friends, I'm more easy to be around.  It's because when you fill yourself up with the things that you love, that drive you, and are important to are a better person.

We become "alive" and yes, the world needs us all to be alive!
