The doctor was in (sort of)
After spending FOUR days in the hospital last week, Riley is finally on the mend! We are so grateful for that, as well as all the support and well wishes we've received from friends and family. What started as a simple infection, turned into a full fledged kidney infection and then C-diff. After being on three different antibiotics to treat the initial infection, the antibiotics stripped her body of both the bad and good bacteria, resulting into a sort of super infection. It wasn't pleasant. Luckily we had some wonderful nurses to help us get to the root of the problem (yes, nurses) when the doctors chalked it up to being a mystery.
The whole experience, going on for over three weeks now has made me realize how important it is to be your own family's advocate when it comes to health care. Ask questions, do your research and for goodness sakes, if something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts!
So what if we missed out on our annual Cape Cod trip and a few beach days. At least she's getting back to feeling like herself again in time for school.
I hope Riley get well soon! That must have been tough times for you and your family! Hope all will get some rest and your heartbeat will slow down to normal.
