80's Flicks - It's Retro Monday
I have a confession to make, I still own VHS tapes...and a VCR. I know, a thing of the past, I simply cannot part with a few of my favorite tapes from the 80s. Could I upgrade to DVDs? Yes, most likely several titles. Still, there is something very 1985 about keeping a collection of VHS tapes. I can remember the very first time we got our own VCR. It was a big deal, not many people in our neighbor had VCRs so I can remember neighbors gathering for movie nights and to catch a glimpse of how easy these machines were to use. I remember our membership to Video Studio 19, so long ago. I'd go with my Dad on Friday nights to pick out a movie or two. We'd get to keep them the entire weekend. I watched Grease, The Parent Trap and Swiss Family Robinson over and over again. I snuck glimpses of Creepshow
in horror and soon understood why my parents waited until I was asleep to watch a scary movie (I still have flashes of the the scariest parts to this day.)
I first fell in love with Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise after watching these...
(and out of love after that infamous Matt Lauer interview with Tom years later).
Still, I am certain I would be unable to replace these childhood favorites with a DVD and seriously, how could I part with these gems? I seriously had a crush on Emperor Ming....what was wrong with me? Was it the eyebrows?
Let's also be clear that if you happened to be going by my room in 1982, you most certainly would hear this movie's soundtrack blasting from my 33⅓ rpm record player. Still have the album today, though no record player...but someday, someday I will hear Olivia's voice again. And seriously, a musical about rollerskating? Nothing screams 80's retro like leg warmers and roller skates!
What's your favorite 80's flick? I hope you can enjoy the topic, just don't call me glib! Happy Monday Friends!

Haven't seen Xanadu? I'm going to include a clip for you to enjoy the 80's vibe...
OK the first two I can give you...but those last two? Oh friend you make me laugh! We still have VHS tapes too...but no VCR. Of course, mine are mainly graduation videos from high school and college...I went through all of our DVD's recently and trashed the ones that we can watch on instant view through netflix.

ReplyDeleteSo funny! I don't have a VCR anymore, but still have VHS tapes. They are sentimental and I can't bring myself to get rid of them! I remember the days of trying to record a show on my VCR. How did I ever life without my DVR?! Haha!
