Blogs and Articles Worth Sharing!
My blogging journey began so long ago but started after I was inspired by so many others in the blogging community. Some posts are so thoughtful that they are worth sharing and I truly believe that this is one of them. Motherhood is such a journey and as time passes, I'm reminded everyday of how rewarding and challenging it can be. I am so happy that I am the mother of two beautiful healthy daughters. I don't know anything different but I do know that as they get older, they will be faced with more challenges. I want to teach them to be confident, to follow their hearts, to do the right thing, to listen to their parents and to work hard. I want to be there to remind them it isn't worth getting upset over the "mean girls" and let them know they should never be one of those "mean girls". Mommy Om shared this wonderful article that I wanted to pass along to you, if you haven't already seen it...25 things I want my daughter to know. I love it, it's so smart and well written, much better than my generic old list above. And if you happen to have a little boy, no worries! She has a list for 25 things I want my son to know too!
42% of 1st - 3rd grade girls want to be thinner.
Girls’ self-esteem peaks at 9 years old.
By age 10, 80% of girls report being afraid of becoming fat.
I feel like this isn't a new subject, this is something that we've been discussing forever. Lift your children up, stop talking about our weight. Focus on what matters. But yet there you have it. How scary to think that we are creating a little culture of body obsessed women! Enough already. It's hard enough just being that I hate the thought of my little ones worrying about what they are consuming. I'm trying so very hard to encourage healthy eating habits and building a strong foundation at an early age. We're all in this together, right? Read more from this article here and be sure to check out A Mighty Girl, full of fantastic resources and ideas to help us raise smart, thoughtful, confident and courageous young women!
Are there blogs you go to daily for inspiration and guidance? Are there certain posts that just hit you? Those you want to share and read over and over again? I'd love to have you share them!

While we are on the subject, was reading the other day and discovered these jaw dropping statistics:

Great links! I think the blogs that I enjoy the most show me that it is ok to let go of the expectations. Letting my kids get down in the dirt, and letting their imaginations work are some of the most important things I take away!
ReplyDeleteIt is so easy to get caught up in what society thinks is right, when I'm not entirely sure I think society is a good representation of what is right :-) Thanks for the links!
That is one thing that scares me about having kids - having a girl! haha. I would love to have one, but it's so hard for girls growing up nowadays. It was bad enough when I was a teenager, but I think it's way worse now. So much pressure to be thin and so many bullies out there. It's scary! But if anyone can do it and raise them right, it's you :)
ReplyDeleteWhat great blog Jess! It's so hard growing up let alone just being. There's so much pressure, often negative that it's scary! You are a wonderful mom, an inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. With 3 girls this is something I am always thinking about for the future....I totally agree that we need to build our girls up and focus on all the ways they are special/smart/creative....not just "cute"
