Light and Easy Summer Party Food for Kids!

If you're like most people, you do a lot of enertaining as the weather heats up.  We celebrate birthdays in May, June and July in our house.  Add Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day and there is a lot of food to buy, prepare and serve.  We enjoy having friends and family over and celebrating but it can get overwhelming trying to please everyone.  Sometimes the easier, the better especially for the younger set.  We often have a cookout with the usual fare but also like to offer some other options for the kids.  Here are some easy, healthy and kid friendly options that work well for Summertime gatherings:

Mini Caprese Skewers - a huge hit around here!  Who doesn't love fresh basil, mozzerella, tomatoes and balmasic?  My daughter was begging for these last week.  We can't wait till the Farmer's Market and with any hope, our own garden offers fresh tomatoes!
Fresh Fruit Salad!  At our last party, I served it in a trifle bowl and cut flower shaped watermelon with a cookie cutter to make it a extra fancy.
Rainbow Pasta Salad!  This goes a long way and is quite economical.  I used bowtie pasta and added celery, yellow peppers, carrots, tomatoes, salt, pepper, olive oil and vinegar.  We put the cheese on the side.
Tea sandwiches!  Here are some ideas but really, anything goes!  I love to offer variety so that everyone can have a little something.
  • Nutella on Cinnimon Swirl Bread
  • Honey Peanut Butter and Banana on Whole Wheat
  • Raspberry Jam and Cream Cheese Flowers on Oatmeal Bread
  • Peanut Butter and Honey
  • Cucumber and Cream Cheese
Do you have special party food for the kiddos?  Is there something you tend to make over and over again to keep the littles happy?

Happy Friday Friends!  Linking up today over at Townsend House!

  1. I love all these kid-friendly foods, especially all the fun little sandwich ideas! And anything on a toothpick, of course..... :) I might steal some of these ideas for the girls' bday party this summer - I want it to all be fun food for kids!

  2. Your fruit salad is soooo cute! I love the idea of using a cutter to make cute little shapes out of the watermelon. Genius! And the tea sandwiches are a great idea as well. Peanut butter and honey is one of my all-time favorite combinations :)
