Richard Simmons: It's Retro Monday!
Do you ever think about the span of you life and how things have evolved? I often think about my children growing up in a world and trying to navigate things that I never had to deal with (the internet, cyberspace, facebook, twitter, the list goes on!) I remember right before I got married, I got a WEB TV and I thought it was the coolest thing around! I could access this thing they called the World Wide Web and it only took me about 15 minutes to get on. When I was a kid, I remember running a tin can from my neighbors house to mine, we didn't have walkie talkies or cellphones or even our own phones, black and white tv, the list goes on. It becomes even more apparent when you start flipping through these old magazines which I think is why I have such a fondness for them. They really are fun and throw a spotlight on just how much things have changed!
If I EVER walked into a place to get an oil change and spotted this guy, I would run out the front door! Really? Richard Simmons was a hot sex symbol according to readers of Women's Day back in '81! My, how times have changed! Although, I do love his 'stash, very Magnum PI!
And, this was the "Most Wanted Gift in 1981!" This GIANT telephone was the one we all wished for?
How cool that phone would have been back then! You reminded me of the first phone line I remember having, and that was a party line. Can you even imagine that in today's world?

DeleteOh my yes, the party line was a riot!
DeleteI love your retro posts. I don't remember Simmons being hot, so maybe I am not too old after all.
ReplyDeleteI thought this spread was hilarious! Maybe they were trying to convince us of his sex appeal??? Not sure but it didn't work!
DeleteLOVE that phone! (always have!!) And Richard Simmons?? All I can think of is Sweatin' to the Oldies (which I also loved, btw) :)
ReplyDeleteMe too, in sort of that guilty pleasure kind of way ;)
